I bought this to play one song in particular (Michael Jackson’s Say Say Say) and have trouble finding the low Ab note. I have to play it an octave higher.

Just What I Needed
Since I frequently play with horns, a Bb harmonica with equal tempered tuning is a necessity. The Golden Melody is one of my favorite models, and I own other Hohners, plus Suzukis, Seydels and Easttops. No wonder it’s been a favorite of professionals, from Howard Levy to Buddy Green.. I just start to learning the diatonic harmonica, Golden Melody is the one for me.

I purchased a Golden Melody because I am a newbie who started with a couple lower-priced harmonicas, both of which developed a ‘dead spot’ immediately. The Golden Melody and the other harmonica I just purchased at a ‘higher price point’ are both big improvements; all the notes are there and there are more ‘responsive.’ To any beginner I would say: the extra cost over the lower priced harmonicas is well worth it; you’ll experience less frustration, more ‘success’ and learn quicker.

A disappointment
Disappointing. And frankly, a waste of my money. I already owned a Special 20 A-Flat, but based on comments/reviews, etc., I thought that the GM might offer a little more tone, playability, sound,…whatever for a duet I’ll be playing with a pianist. That turned out to not be the case. The GM sounds only slightly different than the S-20 and is harder to play because its openings are smaller. What’s more, I had contacted Harmonicaland seeking advice about the older vs. newer GMs, but the promised message never arrived. Still hasn’t. So I made an unfortunate mistake in choosing the older, more expensive version. Would’ve liked feedback from the seller (as they recommend) before buying but since I didn’t get it, I was on my own and flubbed. As I said, a disappointment. It did arrive quickly…for what it’s worth.
