What makes the 1847 LIGHTNING so special?
For the first time, we created polished stainless steel reeds for the best responsiveness, a beautifully balanced fat tone, and a very long lifetime. The 1847 LIGHTNING is available in the seven most commonly used keys: G, A, Bb, C, D, E, and F. It also comes in a set of seven instruments. The 1847 LIGHTNING comes with a polished, solid stainless-steel comb that gives the instrument not only extra weight (155 g / 5,5 Oz) but also adds a very resonant component to the sound.
The shiny stainless steel coverplates with the special 1847 3D-imprintand side vents are completely rounded at the front and opened wide at the back for the best sound projection towards the audience.

This 1847 Lightning is Just Amazing!!!
I am new to playing harmonica, but I have upgraded from a Fender to a Hohner to a Lee Oskar, and then to Seydel. I have been practicing with a Seydel 1847 Noble, but I decided to give this a try after watching some YouTube videos. Holy harmonica! This harp is perfect for me. The tones are slightly deeper and richer (probably because this harp has squarer holes and more weight from the stainless steel body) and it is a dream to play–and I have only seriously been playing for two months. It is expensive, but quality is always expensive and you get what you pay for. I will be buying more of these in the future. Oh, yeah, and the delivery was quick and it arrived in perfect condition.

I recently bought this harp in the key of “G,” after owning another one in “D” that I bought here a couple months ago. The build quality is amazing; as soon as you hold it, it’s heft and craftsmanship are plainly apparent. Very tightly sealed, the reeds are responsive and the steel comb produces a full, rich tone. The steel reeds are easy to play, responsive, happy to bend notes and have a unique sound as compared to brass or phosphor bronze reeds. If you have been playing harps with wooden or acrylic combs, you will immediately notice the difference. It sounds great, it’s nice and loud, and due to the all steel construction there is absolutely no swelling and cleaning is a breeze. If you are a tongue-blocker, you will appreciate how smooth and polished the steel comb is. There are no sharp corners anywhere. Everything is polished and smooth. This is a harp that I know will last a very long time. I have had harps from Hohner and Lee Oskar over the years, and while I enjoy them, I have decided to get an entire set of the Seydel Lightnings in keys “C,” “D,” “A,” “G,” “F,” and maybe a Bb at some point. They are pricey, but you most definitely get what you pay for in this case. Service was very prompt, the harp arrived in perfect condition and I will be buying all my future harmonicas from Harmonicaland. Give the Lightning a try; it’s a real treat.

Superb Harp
This is my second Lightning, in G; my previous is in D. Craftsmanship is apparent just by holding it in your hand. Everything is tight and polished; there are no snag points to speak of. The steel comb produces a rich and vibrant tone a little different than a wooden comb harp. The Seydel Lightning is a very nice instrument and can really project its sound quite well; you’ll have no issues being heard when playing! Service from Harmonicaland was fast and professional. Eventually, I will buy Lightnings in A, C, Bb, Low F and probably a Low D. I’ve played Hohners for years and still do–they’re great–but I wanted to try Seydel’s Lightning series and am very glad I did. If you’re used to wood combs and are unsure what a steel combed harp will sound like, don’t be! I am sure you will be as happy with the Lightning as I am.

Nice Harp But
I was hoping that buying a top of the line harp would deliver me an out of the box great playing instrument. What I received was a harp with draw holes 2 – 4 dead and a number of reeds not tuned properly as in sharp and or flat. I’ve made the adjustments and tuning and it sound good now but I find it just poor quality control on the manufacturers part. I’ve also been told that this is a fairly common trait across all harp manufacturers. I know I’m new but this just seems that we, the buying public, have just accepted this as standard operating procedure for these products.

I’ve been use to playing the old Hohners and thought they were great until I tried a Seydel, and wow! what an experience it’s been so far. What makes this the Best Seydel Harmonica I Own . Well the amount wind that you need to blow or draw through this Harmonica doesn’t seem to take as much as a lot Seydel Harmonica Does or not for me . It is built very good and sturdy . And I Love they it feels in my Hands , and the sound is very very good . from what I can tell it is Perfectly Tuned . I am very happy with this Harmonica .

I’ve been playing The Honer Crossover for a number of years now and last year got my first set of Suzuki Pro Master and really liking them, however just picked up this Seydel 1847 and really liking the weight, response and tone. I’ve only practiced a few riffs on it and ready for this weekends gig. Gonna be playing this key of A hard on 7 songs and have a good feeling about it.

I am not a professional by any means. I bought a Session steel because of its advertised longevity having stainless reeds. Because I liked them so much, I bought the 1847 lightning. I can’t justify the extra money especially since the sessions sound so great. It was kind of a calculated impulse buy. In my very amateur opinion, the Lightning has a (slightly) nicer, more pure tone than the Sessions. Dollar wise, I can’t justify it but I’m glad I bought it.

I received the Seydel 1847 Lightning harmonica. Unfortunately holes 1,2 and 3 blow hesitated. That’s a gaping issue. I’m totally disappointed! At the cost of this item it should be in perfect working condition!

I bought 2 harps (C and A) I liked them so much a few days later I just had to have a Low F. love the weight, sound and quality build. Perfect for me. Pricey but at 75 years old and playing the harp for 50 years I will never wear them out and they are totally rebuildable if the need arrises These are equal to the two custom harp I purchased over the years. Would recommend If you got the bucks for a good reliable harmonica.

Love these for the heavier weight and reliability. I have 3 in C A and low D and I will buy more in the low keys when I can afford it. That Charlie Musselwhite is tempting. As nice as these are I still love a good wood comb harmonica but the lightning is my go to unit. We Already know Harmonicaland is the best place to buy your first or last harmonica.

I Am New, So Perhaps Uncritical
First off it is weighty, which I consider a good thing. This is very durable instrument. I went with the key of G and it has a rich deep sound. It feels pleasant on the lips, not abrasive, and the material is quite smooth so you glide right over it. I would tell you how it bends but alas I am still learning. :p
