Harmonica Sets Hohner

Harmonica sets are a good way to save and bundle once you know which model you like. They typically come in the most useful keys. Hohner harmonica sets are pre-made at the factory so unfortunately the keys included are what you get and can not be swapped for other keys (as we get asked all the time). On another hand, Seydel and Harmo harmonica sets can be easily customised with your keys of choice.

Hohner is the oldest Harmonica manufacturer and the most established one.  Hohner started making harmonicas in 1857 in Trossingen Germany when its founder Matthias Hohner a clockmaker by craft decided to start a local family business that will quickly expand to the United States at the end of the 19th century becoming the first harmonica manufacturer to produce and sell over One million harmonicas. To this day most Hohner harmonica models are still made in Trossingen.

Harmonicaland carries all the major quality made in German models by Hohner such as the Special 20, Golden Melody, Rocket, Marine Band 1896, Marine Band Deluxe, Crossover, Thunderbird, Rocket low, Hohner Blues band, Big river, Rocket amp, Pro Harp, Penta Harp, Juke Blues, Blues Harp, and Meisterklasse.

The most popular models like the Hohner Blues Harp, Hohner Special 20, Hohner Rocket, and Hohner Marine Band classic 1896 come in sets of 3 and 5 harmonicas bundled together. When you start playing the diatonic harmonica - also commonly called mouth organ and blues harp - you will need to purchase several harmonicas in order to play in the most popular keys. The diatonic harmonica is designed to play easily in one or two keys so in order to play in more than two keys you need to purchase more harmonicas.

For instance, with a C harmonica, most players will play a song in C or G, sometimes D. That’s where Harmonica sets come in handy for the beginner and any harmonica player building a set of harps.

  • The Hohner Blues Harp is made of a Doussie wood comb that is double lacquered, with brass reeds and stainless steel covers. It is 10.5 centimetres / 4.1 inches long.

The Blues harp has a warm tone perfect for Folk music and Blues. Hohner makes a set of 3 in the Hohner Blues Harp pro pack. It includes a harmonica in the key of C, G, and A. That allows you to play folk songs and Blues tunes in C, G, G, D, A, and E.

  • The Hohner Special 20 – one of their most popular models – is also a 10-hole diatonic harmonica and is sold as a set of 3 in the Hohner Special 20 pro pack configuration with the keys of C, G, and A include.

The Special 20 is made of a black plastic comb, brass reeds, and stainless steel covers. It is 10.2 centimeters / 4 inches long. It is recommended for amplified blues and rock harmonica playing. It’s also been used extensively by country harmonica players like Charlie McCoy and rock player John Popper (from Blues Traveler)

This set comes with individual plastic boxes but no carrying case. The Special 20 is composed of a plastic comb, brass reeds, and stainless steel covers

Now you can easily play popular songs in C, G, D, A, E, B, G, D, A, and E. The Hohner Marine Band 1896 which just recently celebrated its 125th Anniversary with a special edition is available in harmonica sets of 3 and 5. The Marine Band classic is made of a double lacquered pear wood comb, brass reeds and stainless steel covers nailed to the comb. It’s the most iconic model from Hohner. It has been used by most Folk and Blues artists of the 20th century such as Bob Dylan (See his signature model here), Little Walter, James Cotton, Sonny Boy Williamson, and many more famous blues harmonica players! It is 10 centimetres / 3.9 inches long. Mainly used for acoustic Blues and Folk.

The Hohner Rocket is made in 3 variants, The Rocket standard with a black abs comb, brass reeds, and stainless steel covers is an improved version of the Special 20. The Rocket amp is the same exact model but with a flash green comb. The Rocket low is an extension of the Rocket standard in the keys of Low C, Low D, Low Eb, Low  E, Low F, and Low F.

The rocket is composed of a Gray plastic abs comb, brass reeds, and stainless steel covers.

It is 10.2 centimetre / 4 inches long. It is said to be louder than the Special 20 model and is well-suited for blues rock players and amplified harmonica gigs.

The Hohner rocket is available as a harmonica set of 5 harps the Hohner Rocket pro packs a 5-piece set of 5 harmonicas in the key of C, D, G, A, and B flat that comes with a carrying case.
